The wait to find out the winner of UK City of Culture 2025 is nearly over.
We are very excited to share that the announcement will be made live on BBC’s The One Show at 7.00pm on Tuesday (31 May).
County Durham is one of four locations shortlisted for the prestigious title.
If successful in securing the title, it would bring colossal social and economic benefits to the entire region, creating thousands of jobs, boosting the creative and visitor economies by millions of pounds and improving community wellbeing.
The Durham 2025 campaign has been spearheaded by Durham County Council, Durham University and Culture Durham.
Alison Clark, bid director, said: “We are so excited that we only have a matter of days left to find out if we will be named UK City of Culture 2025. If successful, we will be the first ever county to win such a prestigious title and the benefits will be felt for years to come.
“We are so grateful for everyone’s support and their fantastic ideas which have helped to shape our bid. We’d urge everyone to tune in to The One Show on Tuesday to share in this special moment with us and, hopefully, to join us in celebrating.”
